Septic Tank Hidden Under a Deck: Bulldog Septic Solves a Tough Locate in Winder, GA

After two other septic companies could not locate their septic tank, a homeowner in Winder, GA, called Bulldog Septic for help. One company had even suggested the tank was beneath the driveway. Our team arrived with the sewer camera and locating equipment needed to find answers.

We discovered a cleanout beneath the deck, crawled underneath, and ran our sewer inspection camera through the line. Using the camera’s frequency transmitter, we quickly pinpointed the septic tank’s location: under a deck built by the previous owner.

Finding the tank was only the beginning. We uncovered the rear access, partially beneath a fence, and identified a two-compartment septic tank requiring access to both compartments for proper pumping. Our crew then carefully hand-dug around the deck post footings to expose the front access.

Inside, we found an effluent filter marked 1999—a 27-year-old date—and substantial sludge buildup consistent with overdue septic maintenance. Although the filter date alone cannot confirm when the tank was last serviced, the condition made the need for a thorough pump-out clear. We agitated the accumulated sludge and pumped both compartments to complete the service.
